Rural Community Development and Community Planning Faculty and students in SDSU's Department of Sociology engage in class projects and present discussion papers with the intent of encouraging community improvement. Students from such classes as Rural Community Planning, Community Development, Community Natural Resource Management, Applied Demography, and Applied Sociology conduct projects which analyze, propose ideas, and make suggestions for improving life in South Dakota's rural communities. The students hope to challenge conventional thinking, encourage residents to engage in influencing their own future, and to provide residents of our communities with information so that they can make them stronger, more attractive, and safer places where people are proud to live.
